📖 Mass Readings — 9 January 2026
✝️ Opening Prayer
Lord God,
open our hearts to Your Word today.
May Your Spirit enlighten us
to understand and live the Gospel,
so that by faith in Your Son,
we may be transformed into His likeness
and bear witness to Your love.
Amen.
📜 First Reading
1 John 5:5–13
“Who can overcome the world but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?”
The reading speaks of the testimony God gives about His Son: water, blood, and Spirit all bear witness to Jesus Christ, and those who believe in Him have eternal life. Catholic Online
Reflection
At the heart of this reading is faith in Christ—the assurance that belief in Jesus is the foundation of salvation and true life. St. John reassures the community that what believers have received is not just knowledge but eternal life in Christ.
Application
Today, reflect on the strength of your faith:
Do you trust Jesus as the source of life and truth?
In moments of doubt or struggle, lean into the promise that believing in Christ gives you eternal life and peace.
🎵 Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20
“Praise the Lord, Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion.”
The psalm praises God for strengthening and blessing His people, bringing peace and revealing His word to Israel. Catholic Online
Reflection
This psalm celebrates God’s care and providence—His protection, provision, and at-work presence among His people. It invites us to praise and trust God for what He has done and continues to do.
Application
Offer praise today—especially for the ways God has strengthened you, provided for you, and revealed Himself through His word and sacraments.
✝️ Gospel
Luke 5:12–16
Jesus heals a man with leprosy: “Lord, if you are willing, You can make me clean.” Jesus touches him, heals him, and instructs him to show himself to the priest and offer the cleansing sacrifice prescribed by Moses. Then Jesus withdraws to pray. Catholic Online
Reflection
This Gospel reveals Jesus’ compassion and authority. He not only heals the man but also restores him to community life. Jesus’ final act—withdrawal to pray—reminds us that prayer is essential even for the Son of God.
Application
Consider where you need healing—physically, spiritually, or emotionally. Bring it before Jesus in prayer, trusting in His willingness to make you whole. And like Jesus, make space for prayer in your day.
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You healed the leper,
revealing Your power and mercy.
Help us to believe in You more deeply,
to praise You with grateful hearts,
and to follow You with faith and trust.
May Your Word take root in us
so that we may live as Your disciples,
sharing Your light with all we meet.
Amen.
