MASS READINGS – 14 November 2025 (Friday)

🙏 OPENING PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
open our hearts to Your Word today.
Strengthen our faith, deepen our hope,
and help us live with perseverance as we await Christ’s return.
Grant that we may remain faithful in trials
and joyful in Your promises.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

📜 FIRST READING – Wisdom 13:1–9

Source: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/wisdom/13

Summary:
The author rebukes those who admire creation but fail to recognize the Creator behind it—those who fall into idolizing nature instead of worshipping God.

Explanation (For Catholics & Catechumens)

Many people admire beauty, power, or natural forces, yet do not go deeper to see God’s hand behind them. Creation is meant to lead us to God, not replace Him.

Applications

  • When you admire nature, say: “Lord, how wonderful are Your works.”

  • Avoid turning anything created—money, power, beauty, human approval—into an idol.

  • Let creation inspire worship, not distraction.

CCC

  • CCC 32 – Creation leads the human person to know God.

  • CCC 2113 – Idolatry puts something created in God’s place.

📜 RESPONSORIAL PSALM – Psalm 19:2–5

R: The heavens proclaim the glory of God.

Explanation:
The psalm declares that the whole universe silently proclaims God’s glory.

Applications

  • Spend a moment each day noticing God’s signs around you.

  • Praise God for His greatness revealed in creation.

CCC 41, 1147 – Creation reveals God’s beauty.

📜 GOSPEL – Luke 17:26–37

Source: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/luke/17
(Jesus speaks of the Days of Noah and Lot)

Explanation

Jesus warns that His return will be sudden.
People will be living ordinary lives—eating, drinking, marrying—just like in the days of Noah and Lot. Many ignored God’s warnings and were caught unprepared.

Christ teaches three key truths:

  1. His coming is certain, but the timing unknown.

  2. We must remain spiritually ready at all times.

  3. Those attached to worldly things (like Lot’s wife) lose themselves.

Applications (For Catholics & Catechumens)

  • Live each day as if meeting Christ today.

  • Avoid spiritual laziness and always remain in a state of grace.

  • Let go of habits, sins, or attachments that hold you back from God.

  • Put your relationship with Christ above everything else.

CCC

  • CCC 673–677 – Christ's return and final judgment.

  • CCC 1040 – Each person will give an account to God.

  • CCC 2612 – Vigilance and faith in prayer.

🙏 CLOSING PRAYER

Lord Jesus,
help us stay awake and alert as we await Your coming.
Free us from attachments that draw us away from You.
Fill us with Your Spirit so that our lives may reflect Your love and truth.
Keep us faithful until we see You face-to-face.
Amen.
