God Works Through the Small and Humble

Today’s readings remind us that God does not look at importance the way the world does. He works through the humble, the ordinary, and those who trust Him.

God Chooses the Small — Micah 5:1–4

Bethlehem was a small and seemingly insignificant place, yet God chose it as the birthplace of Jesus.

This reminds us that we should never think we are too small or unimportant for God to use. The world may overlook us, but God can work through us for His glory.

Jesus came into the world to reveal God to us and bring us salvation. He is God the Son made man.

Trust God in Every Situation — Psalm 12(13):6–7

We are called to trust in God's mercy even when life becomes difficult.

There will be times when God seems silent or when our prayers appear unanswered. But this does not mean God has abandoned us.

Trust Him in the good times and the bad times. God remains faithful.

Be Merciful Like Joseph — Matthew 1:1–16, 18–23

Joseph was a righteous man. When he discovered that Mary was pregnant, he did not want to publicly disgrace her. He planned to handle the situation quietly.

We can learn from Joseph. When someone makes a mistake or when we don't understand someone's situation, we should not rush to gossip, condemn, or humiliate them.

Correct with love. Speak with charity. Show mercy.

Joseph also teaches us to listen and obey God even when we don't understand everything. When the angel revealed God's plan to him, Joseph trusted God.

The genealogy of Jesus also reminds us that God's plan had been unfolding throughout salvation history. God had not forgotten His promises.

Jesus is Emmanuel — “God is with us.”

Even when God seems silent, He has not abandoned us.

Reflection

God can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things. We don't have to be popular, powerful, or important in the eyes of the world.

Like Joseph, we are called to trust God, listen to Him, obey Him, and treat others with mercy.

When life becomes confusing, remember:

God is with us. Trust Him and allow Him to work through you.

Questions for Reflection

1. Do I sometimes feel too ordinary or unimportant for God to use me? How can I allow God to work through me today?

2. Do I still trust God when my prayers seem unanswered? Or do I trust Him only when things are going well?

3. How do I treat people when they make mistakes? Do I gossip, judge, or embarrass them, or do I respond with love and mercy?

4. Am I willing to obey God even when I do not fully understand His plan?

5. Where in my life do I need to remember that Jesus is Emmanuel — “God is with us”?

6. What is one situation I need to surrender to God and trust Him with today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, help me to trust You even when I do not understand what You are doing. Teach me to be humble, merciful, and obedient like St. Joseph. Help me to remember that I am never too small for You to use and that You are always with me. Amen.
