O Lord,
as we await the coming of Your Son at Christmas,

and fill us with joy in Your saving love.
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

📖 Mass Readings — 22 Dec 2025 (Monday, Fourth Week of Advent)

🕊️ First Reading

1 Samuel 1:24–28

After weaning Samuel, Hannah brought him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh, offering a bull, flour, and wine. She presented Samuel to Eli, saying she once prayed for this child and now offers him back to the Lord as long as he lives. Catholic Gallery+1

🎵 Responsorial Psalm

1 Samuel 2:1, 4–5, 6–7, 8abcd

R. My heart exults in the Lord, my Saviour.
My heart exults in the Lord — for He lifts up the lowly, scatters the proud, fills the hungry, and watches over His covenant forever. Catholic Daily Readings

✝️ Gospel

Luke 1:46–56 — The Magnificat

Mary proclaims: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.” She praises God’s mercy, justice, and faithfulness — acknowledging that God exalts the humble and fulfills His promises. Catholic Gallery+1

🧠 Reflection & Explanation

📌 Theme: Total Self-Giving in Advent
This day’s readings draw us into the heart of self-offering and joyful surrender.

  • Hannah’s offering of Samuel prefigures the self-surrender of Christ — a gift given for the life of the world. Catholic Gallery

  • Mary’s Magnificat echoes this spirit of praise and humility. Her yes to God becomes the model for every believer’s response to grace. Catholic Daily Readings

Connection to Advent:
Advent draws us deeper into active waiting — not passive anticipation, but readiness to give ourselves away in love, service, and obedience. These readings encourage us to reflect on how we present ourselves before God: do we hold back, or offer ourselves freely as Mary and Hannah did?

🧩 Application for Daily Life

For Catholics:

  • In prayer: Offer a simple prayer of surrender each morning — “Lord, I give You today with all its joys and challenges.”

  • In action: Bring Christ to others through small acts of mercy — attentive listening, generous giving, forgiving a long-held hurt.

For Catechumens:

  • Reflect on how you are being formed in Christian freedom: surrendering old attachments and embracing the new life Christ is inviting you into. Use the Magnificat as a prayer of gratitude for what God is doing in you.

🙏 Closing Prayer

Lord God,
as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Your Son,
grant us the grace to rejoice in Your loving plan.
May our hearts be open to Your Word,
and may our lives reflect Your mercy and peace.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
