The Rosary Leads Us Closer to Jesus

Through the Rosary, Catholics join Mary in meditating on the life of Jesus. We reflect on His birth, ministry, suffering, death, Resurrection and glory. By meditating on these mysteries, we come to know Jesus more deeply and grow in love and intimacy with Him.

Mary truly magnifies Jesus. She does not take us away from Him but always leads us towards Him. At the wedding feast in Cana, Mary told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5). This shows that true devotion to Mary is always centred on following Jesus.

Mary is called the New Ark of the Covenant because she carried Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in her womb. The Ark of the Covenant in the Old Testament carried signs of God’s presence, but Mary carried Jesus, who is truly God present among His people.

The angel Gabriel greeted Mary as “full of grace” (Luke 1:28). God filled her with grace and specially prepared her to become the Mother of Jesus. Mary is not divine, and Catholics do not worship her. We honour her because of what God accomplished in her and ask her to pray for us.

The Rosary is a Christ-centred prayer. Through Mary’s loving example and intercession, it helps us know Jesus, love Him and follow Him more faithfully.
