Let the Holy Spirit Guide You, and Follow Jesus

Today's readings remind us that we need the Holy Spirit to understand God's ways, God's mercy when we fall, and Jesus Christ as the One who has true authority over our lives.

1 Corinthians 2:10–16 — Let the Holy Spirit Teach You

The Holy Spirit knows the depths of God and reveals God's wisdom to us.

We cannot understand everything about God through human thinking alone. God's wisdom is different from the wisdom of the world. What the world considers foolish may actually be God's truth.

The Holy Spirit helps us understand God's Word and teaches us to think and live according to Christ.

When St Paul says that we have the "mind of Christ," it means that we should allow Christ to change the way we think, judge and live.

The message is simple: Don't depend only on your own understanding. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you.

Psalm 144(145):8–14 — God Is Merciful When We Fall

God is gracious, merciful and slow to anger.

He gives us opportunities to repent and return to Him. God knows that we are weak, but He does not abandon us because of our weakness.

When we fall, He gives us the grace to get up and continue walking with Him.

But God's mercy is not an excuse to continue living in sin. His mercy should lead us to repentance and change.

The message is simple: When you fall, don't run away from God. Turn back to Him.

Luke 4:31–37 — Jesus Has Authority

Jesus spoke with authority, and even the demons recognised who He was.

Sometimes we are afraid to speak about our faith because we worry about what others will think of us. We may be afraid of being judged according to worldly standards.

But we should not be ashamed of Jesus or His Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you courage to live and proclaim your faith.

There is also something important to remember: the demon knew who Jesus was, but knowing Jesus' identity is not the same as following Him.

We can know about Jesus, read Scripture and go to church, but the real question is:

Are we actually following Him?

Sometimes we become so caught up with work, money, entertainment, worries and other worldly things that we fail to recognise Jesus working in our lives.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I ask the Holy Spirit to guide my decisions?

2. Do I depend more on God's wisdom or the wisdom of the world?

3. When I sin or fall, do I return to God and ask for His mercy?

4. Am I allowing God's grace to change me?

5. Am I afraid to speak about Jesus because of what others may think?

6. What worldly distractions are preventing me from recognising Jesus in my life?

7. Do I simply know about Jesus, or am I truly following Him?

Knowing Jesus is not enough. Let the Holy Spirit guide you, trust in God's mercy, and choose to follow Christ every day.
